After the refurbishment, the ship has mostly been cruising in polar regions, with summer programs in the Arctic and winter seasons in Antarctica. Neatly folded undergarments are returned wrapped in tissue paper. Clothes on hangers come bundled in a Silversea-embossed plastic bag. They do have more premium suites like Owners suites, Medallion suites and Silver Suites which aremuch bigger but the main type of cabin is Veranda suites. Being an expedition ship it also has 18 zodiacs to take people out on the various excursions, and it has 10 kayaks.
Designed to provide the most intimate of experiences at sea, Silver Cloud carries fewer than 300 passengers amid the luxury of space and the feeling of a luxurious home away from home. Silver Cloud’s small fitness center offers classes during days at sea, There are also a beauty salon with massage offerings, but with a minimum staff on duty. The almost entirely European staff is as personable as it is efficient. They’ll know your names – and preferences – almost before you’ve gotten to your cabin. Officers and crew seem genuinely to enjoy getting to know their passengers. Because so many Silversea voyagers stay aboard for cruise after cruise, there’s a rare atmosphere of conviviality.
Cloud passengers are typically 45 to 75 years old and are mostly American, with some Brits and Australians. Some are Silversea aficionados on their first expedition sail. Silver Cloud onboard activities vary from language lessons and lectures to bridge and dance classes. Evening entertainment includes “The Artists of Silversea” troupe, performing from Beatles to opera. Silver Cloud also offers an Internet cafe – 100 minutes online access will cost you $45; 1,000 minutes are $250.
In August 2016 (during the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro Brazil) the vessel was chartered as a hotel ship (listed capacity 296 guests) for the USA's two basketball teams. For the 2016 Olympics' VIPs (organizers, committee members, sponsors, sports federations and other company representatives) as hotel ship was chartered NCL's Norwegian Getaway (capacity 4000 pax). Since 2017, Silver Cloud cruises to Antarctica and Arctic (polar regions) destinations. The new itineraries are part of Silversea Expeditions' program, with roundtrip departures from homeport Ushuaia (Argentina).
Butlers stock bars with preferred bottles of wine or spirits. (No more automatic bubbly set-up on embarkation; it's now by request.) It's now the newest -- and most alluring -- vessel to join Silversea's fast-growing fleet of expedition ships, and is the hot new superstar of all expedition ships, not just Silversea's. Silversea’s third generation of ships introduced even more luxurious features when the 36,000-ton Silver Spirit launched late in 2010 and the 40,700-ton Silver Muse entered service in 2017. Silversea’s itineraries are among the most attractive on offer from any cruise line, and they do a particularly good job of giving you just the right proportions of time ashore and time at sea. Your fellow passengers are apt to represent a broader range of countries than on other cruises. The service here is sublime, as it is too in The Terrace Cafe, popular for casual breakfast and luncheon buffets, and open to the aft deck, but with not quite enough tables for prospective al fresco diners.
